Here are 3 things you need to know when searching for a roofing contractor.

1) Verify that they are good standing with local and state governments.

Every contractor must have an MHIC NUMBER.  You can ensure the roofing contractor is in good standing by visiting the MD Dept of Labor website.

You can seach by name or license number.  TIP: the lower the number the longer the company has been in business.

2) Verify that they have an active General Liability Insurance policy and Workmans Comp.

If they cannot provide these documents and there is an accident, you may be responsible.  Ask them to provide verification of their Business Liability Insurance policy.

3) Make sure they are up to date with their business taxes.

If they are behind on their taxes, the government may seize there assests.  You can check their good standing on Maryland Business website.
