Mental Health Awareness in the Construction Industry

Did you know? Construction workers, including roofers, are more likely to experience depression and anxiety than the general population. In fact, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), construction workers have a suicide rate 4x higher than the national average.

Here at St. Mary’s Roofing, we fully support the well-being of our crews and want to help break the stigma by encouraging open conversations about mental health in the roofing industry. ️ If you or someone you know is struggling, here are some valuable resources to help:

o Dial 988The 988 Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States.

o Take a confidential self-assessment to gain insights into your mental health.

o Text "HELLO" to 741741 to connect with a volunteer counselor for free, 24/7 support via text message for those in crisis.

o Visit National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) or Mental Health America (MHA) for additional resources and information about mental health conditions, warning signs, and treatment options.

o Call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline 1-800-662-HELP (4357) to access a confidential, free, 24/7 treatment referral and information service for individuals and families facing mental health and substance use disorders.

Remember, it's okay to ask for help. Taking care of your mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness, and it’s just as vital as your physical health. Share this blog to spread awareness and ensure that anyone who is struggling with their mental health knows where to turn for help. Let’s encourage creating a safe space for everyone and let others know they're not alone.
