Our area has seen a lot of precipitation lately! Here are some things to keep in mind…
One of the leading causes of roof failures is the deterioration of structural components caused by water intrusion. Rainwater can infiltrate roofs through damaged or improperly sealed openings, such as missing shingles, gaps in flashing, or compromised seals around vents and chimneys. Roofs with inadequate pitch or improper drainage systems may experience water pooling, leading to increased pressure on roofing materials and potential leaks. Over time, roofing materials may degrade due to exposure to rain, UV rays, and other environmental factors, compromising their ability to repel water effectively.
With the increased rain, moisture content and milder temperatures, conditions are ripe for mold development in areas of vulnerability.
Check your attic first for signs of damage since this is usually the area where roof leaks show the soonest.
Look at the flooring and the bottom of the rafters for water stains.
Walk through your home and look for water stains on the ceilings or mold growth on your home's exterior walls. Listen for dripping sounds coming from the attic or elsewhere in your house.
Not every roof leak is immediately noticeable, but there are telltale signs to watch out for:
- • High humidity indoors
• Moist insulation or drywall
• Mold and mildew
• Peeling paint
• Pooling water on your roof after it rains
• Warped walls or ceilings
• Mold growth on your exterior walls. - Once you find signs of interior water damage from a leaking roof, it's time to inspect the roof from the outside.
